2018 – AZ QSO Party
This past weekend was the QSO party. I had solid intentions of operating for at least a few hours while camping/elk huntin in Pinedale AZ (NVO county) with some friends. My setup went as planned with the OCF atop of my jackite pole mounted on my RV hitch and hung nicely through the trees. Everything tuned up beautifully from 80m-10m with ABSOLUTELY ZERO noise floor. I made a couple of contacts on Thursday and Friday leading up to the contest just as a teaser – however I ran into one clear problem. Generator noise. Not only noise from my generator (which I could easily control since we don’t run the gennie that much since we have 200watts of solar on the roof – actually we only run it to heat up bacon in the microwave in the morning :), but moreso the noise from the generators from my 4 buddies campers. It wouldn’t have been such a big problem except that 2 of the campers had issues with either their battery (not holding a charge) or refrigerator (not operating on gas) and needed to have the gennies running pretty much sun-up to bedtime. At any rate – I had a grate camping trip with some great friends. I made just a few contacts from NVO county but just a few. Upon returning home from the camping trip I was able to contact the bonus station K7A on multiple bands (80, 40, 15, 10, 6 & 2m) from my home station on Sunday night just prior to the contest ending.
