Ham Radio Journal

Journal:  Here is where I keep a journal of my comings and goings related to the hobby.  Some items are just quick blog posts , some are bit longer.  I’ve come to enjoy writing these things down so I don’t forget them, and in order to pay it forward a little bit in the hobby - maybe someone might benefit from my trial and error.

Bio

Name/background:  My name is Andy, K7AMB (previously KG7KWG) and I live in Queen Creek, Arizona (about 30 miles SE of Phoenix).  I got licensed as a technician in 2014, and then General in 2015.  I am a member of the East Valley QRP group where we do weekly radio gatherings in local parks and we have a team who participates in contests, such as field day and SOTA.   My OM# is 11679.  I'm also currently working on on my CW skills...

Equipment:  I operate mainly a Yaesu gear, and at home I'm operating into a somewhat compromised OCF dipole (due to hoa restrictions) along with a Diamond x50 for VHF/UHF.  I'm not setting any records but it gets me on the air...  I enjoy getting out of the city and into the mountains to make contacts on HF, and have started to venture into the world of SOTA.  I tend to tinker with buddipole equipment and other modular antenna builds.

Logging:  I use N3FJP logging software and upload all contacts to LOTW.
